Our Philosophy

Manus Education is based on the philosophy that all students, regardless of their culture, behavioral struggles, or special needs have basic strengths. Students with learning difficulties have amazing potential to reach their full potential. Therefore, we encourage these students to maximize their potential through proactive engagement with their teachers and curriculum supervisors.

Our Staff

The staff at Manus Academy is committed to ensuring that each and every student becomes a well-rounded, confident individual and has a strong sense of self and personal responsibility. With a staff of 13 teachers and 3 support staff, we have the resources necessary to provide for each student’s academic success.

Our Philosophy Doesn’t Candidate Drug Abuse

Philosophies vary as to how teaching communities should structure themselves. What is most important is that our community is committed to working hand-in-hand with each individual to promote personal responsibility. Our philosophy is to understand that the drug abuse problem is a complex puzzle, but to rely on a punitive response alone will not solve the problem. A mix of treatment and education is required.

How to Become a Teacher

Teaching is a charismatic career path. Because of its passionate focus on helping students, utilizing TQM principles and using a collaborative educational process, teaching is a win-win strategy. Manus Academy recognizes that teaching is a profession that requires ongoing professional development. Our teachers must earn continuing education through ongoing courses that enhance their skills and knowledge in a wide range of educational fields.

Our Philosophy

Philosophies differ just as much as schools. What is important to us is that each student learns and develops the skills and habits needed for success. Students attending Manus Academy realize that form follows function; and that they must earn the right to participate in the process of leading and experiencing change. Students are actively engaged in the content process to ensure that it is each individual’s journey. Manus Academy courses are small enough to provide hands-on, sacks-takable experiences. For students on average grade levels, this provides for the opportunity to gain certification in practical procedures used by teachers in the Braille community.

Why Education is so Important

The main reason why we encourage people to pursue a degree from Manus Academy is the difference it makes in the lives of the students. In the classrooms of Manus Academy, educators address the needs of students individually. We recognize that each student has special interests and learning styles. Through small class sizes, choice of general education curriculum and highly qualified teaching faculty, we are able to identify the needs of each student and design a course of study that compliments that student’s specific interests and learning styles.

Technology is an Ever Changing Enemy

Technology is a multi-billion dollar industry that has become an all-popular tool for education. Administrators have realized that technology can provide a new educational perspective. However, it is also a digital turnstile that can be used to attack any educator or student depending on the platform the student uses to communicate. In an e-learning environment students learn to gather and collate data, analyze and interpret this data and act on their findings. Just like in the physical world, learning in the digital world happens at a pace that is personal to the student. This gives a student more time to understand the impact of their communication choices on the world around them.

The reality is that technology is a pervasive force in the world and it cannot be ignored. Technology is used for entertainment, for education, for entertainment and for the learning process itself. Due to the advantages of e-learning there will be a growing emphasis on longer form education and a focus on technologies preferred by both employers and students. Manage the turnstile at your site.

Our Primary objective is to assure each student succeeds in the best possible school environment.

Our students must meet administrative and parental expectations and objectives. By fulfilling these expectations and objectives, we are eachocating funds to ensure each student succeeds.

An Example of our Educational Philosophy…

When teaching, we want our students to learn. We want our students to accomplish at the highest level. This can be accomplished when each student succeeds at the highest level. The traditional classroom has many desks and rows of seats. The classroom is gives the teacher a traditional view of student learning. The teacher wants students to learn, but the teacher does not know how to teach. The A classroom is a mixed model. Using our educational philosophy for teaching and testing, we have created a supportive environment to guide each student. By doing this, we have each student fulfilling their academic expectations and objectives.

Each child must learn and demonstrate all 5 competencies. They must participate in all parts of the curricular activities. We want to provide each student with a well-rounded education, a quality education with a hi-tech 21st century education. We realize that each student is different and each needs different approaches to be successful.

We have found that a lot of the challenges students experience are a result of outside societal influences (the student’s peers, parents,rivale, etc.).So, we are dedicated to ensuring our students have support and a strong sense of self. We placed teacher training in high-population areas to give teachers the support and guidance needed to be able to meet the challenges within their students.

Our Philosophy is to educate each student to have their needs met and to provide each student with a strong foundation in the basics of education. We each have a teaching/learning styles/methods and we call it our own. I can walk into a classroom and immediately identify which students are struggling and which ones are gaining a lot of success. Generally, I would say 90% of the students in my class are gaining success and only 10% are meeting their needs.

Definitely check out the math and reading scores of the classroom. You can look at the exam scores and all the students that did not do well. You can learn a lot just be looking at the raw scores.

One last thing you may want to know is our reduced cost approach. Because we teach all students how to live here, we must teach all students how to live here. This means sending them to school every day. We feel we are answering the needs of the students when we offer this reduced cost for all of our students.

So, we have arrived at a novel and practical plan that allows us to both teach and live here. It is our plan that allows us to teach the math and reading and the science subjects at the introductory level. Each of our students will have choices in core classes, but the majority will meet the core requirements. We will talk again soon about our philosophy of learning and how we can all learn at our convenience.

In the traditional classroom the lesson plan is mandated. There is a wall and chair and a blackboard and a teacher always at a desk. Math and science is boring. The teacher lectures and the students exchange notes or build graph paper and Powerpoint. The teacher makes the Pledge of Allegiance every day. Students stand up in class and recite their pledge. That is what the traditional classroom looks like.

In the digital classroom, the lesson plan is iPad specific. Students will know how to access the lesson plan on their iPad. They will be able to instantly access video lessons, quizzes and assignments and even video from other teachers on the same school campus. The look and feel of the class will be very unique to each student based on their level of proficiency with the tools.

Those were the good old days. Nowadays, with video games and the Internet, playing video games and talking on the Internet are new hobbies. I have seen my online friends play twenty times over the internet and I know that’s a lot of times!

When I talk to them about school though, they hate it. They tell me it is boring and they don’t like the teachers. I have to be honest with them, those kids.

The “Manus” Change

Our Students and the “Manus Culture”

Our students come from a rich cultural background and are supported within the community with cultures of acceptance, encouragement, and love. We believe that each student has special gifts and talents that, while inter-related, cannot be overlooked or separated. Students who have been given the tools to explore their gifts and talents without judgment, can go on to create significant changes and contributions to their communities.

Manus Academy strives to give each student the chance to reach his/her potential within a safe and caring environment where they can enjoy their accomplishments and have fun. We embrace the unique concept of: building a school from the collective imagination of dedicated educators and students; equipping teachers with the expert knowledge and skills needed to collaboratively improve the academic and social success of students; and equipping students with the skills, experiences and inspiration needed to become comprehensive, self-sufficient contributors and global leaders.

Research has demonstrated that students placed in poverty have lower academic achievement than their wealthier counterparts. Although there are no studies pertaining to the relationship between poverty and academic success, it is a well recognized fact that children who are raised in poverty are more likely to remain in lower income levels throughout their lifespans.

The “Manus”

The “manus” is a reference to the classroom. Although the classroom settings differ from child to child, generally the environment includes the same elements. For example, students who have limited English proficiency, are enrolled in special education, or qualify as being in a low-income school are more likely to have limited social interaction with the general public.

The general public has the understanding and stereotypes that are attached to being a child with a learning disability or special need.

The “manus” changes the focus of the classroom. remain open to all-the students can participate in general discussions and have open opportunities for enrichment and self-emplification. Use suggestions and tools that specialize on the needs of special-needs students to broaden their social interactions and to enhance their self-esteem. The more a “manus” child knows about people different from himself or herself, the more likely he/she will feel comfortable socially.

The “manus” change the focus of the classroom. activities that are based around the needs of special-needs students will likely include assistive technology products and systems that address communication challenges and otherkinesthetic issues. Use tools to disengage from technology tasks. this may take the form of designing or in-class instruction or software stimulation.

The “manus” approach to social interaction and the “be-active” approach to instruction will effectively engage students and help them achieves exceptional results.

The “manus” affect the environment. This change and opportunity will impact the environments of special-needs classrooms. The “manus” challenge will provide unique opportunities for encouragement and support that will support students in achieving at their highest levels.

Summary

The “manus” change will impact student achievement by decreased competition and the increased support that students will receive, thus left unchallenged. The low expectations of success and the challenge posed by the environmental factors will minimize the amount of disruption to the social environment. The end result will be positive change and meaningful learning that addresses the unique and challenging nature of the concepts and skills presented with varying levels of complexity. Independent private schools have significant impact on society by promoting excellence just as much as they promote diversity.

Primary Elementary School

Our Primary curriculum is based on the individual curriculum packages that are needed for success. Students are given individualized instruction based on their needs.

Manus Education

Our community recognizes the importance of early learning. umerious Manus Secondary Schools have a strong commitment to keeping their students, teachers, parents and community involved and trained throughout the early childhood years. Every student has a right to an education. We recognize that each student is different and each has a right to a different specialized education program.

Early Childhood Diversity

Both elementary and secondary schools in the Manaus area have programs for the early childhood education. Manus Academy Early Childhood Program is a collaborative program with the Aeneute Elementary School, the ANC, Center for Learning and Development (CFAD) and the City of Manaus.

The Aeneute Elementary School offers a unique preschool program that allows for a very early introduction to the concepts of reading, writing and math. Children here begin to learn basics associated with Living Environment while their brains are developing. The acquired concepts are applied in the After School nurturing programs.

Manus Community College

The Manus Community College is a school offering alternative education in the auto industry for adults aged 21 and older. They offer a range of programs including men and women’s apprenticeships, intensive technicianship and experienced apprenticeship.

Private Education

The private education offered through the after school program is not only extensive, but is also very effective. Many of the students receive their primary education through the private philosophy or public primary schools around the community. Many of the adults have completed their primary education with the guidance of the CFADV program.

The Future Development of Students

In addition to the CFADV Summer School and the ongoing activities at the Aeneute Elementary School, the community also has developed a ADA (Certified Assistant for Learning Development) program to help students with learning and cognitive-skills challenges. The ADA certification is awarded by the American Dental Association to students who have completed the teenage years through the ages of 16. After 16 graduates, the career options are wide. Aeneute Elementary School students who enroll in the CFADV program will receive the equivalent of the ADA credential.

An Important Message for Parents

The Aeneute Elementary School PE teacher mentors student through the use of special learning classes called Enrichment Classes. These classes are intended to provide the student with the opportunity to increase his/her emotional, social and cognitive skills.

Aeneute Elementary School has the most complete program of its kind in the Central Oregon Virtual School District (OVSD) region. The OVSD has a total of 17 schools, located in and outside of Bendigo. In addition to the classes currently offered, the school plans to open a new school in the fall of 2007. The new school will be constructed on the same campus as the current Aeneute Elementary School with the addition of classrooms for fourth and fifth grade students.

Now that the Aeneute Elementary School has been named the State of Oregon’s Best School by the Oregon Education Excellence Award, the school is well on its way to becoming an amazing educational institution.

Our primary focus at Manus Academy is to help all children and youth who suffer from learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD), emotional and/or behavioral problems, and/or significant physical challenges.

Our Philosophy

Manus Education is based on the idea that the main character of each child is distinct, and that each child must be treated differently based on his or her strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, we see each child as a unique individual, and we must understand their strengths before we can better understand the child’s learning disabilities. This is where tutoring and teaching across the curriculum come in. In this way, each student develops a strong understanding of his or her own learning style, and we can use this understanding to better help the student succeed.

How can we begin to recognize our own learning strengths and weaknesses?

For us, teaching across the curriculum seems to begin with understanding each student’s learning strengths and weaknesses. We must begin to see each child as a learner. We must ask questions that open up permission for learning to happen:

Can I learn with you?

Can I borrow your resources?

Can I learn from you?

This permission allows learning to take place by permission. This permission is a primary ingredient in the process of learning. Without this level of permission, learning will not take place.

A key component of our philosophy is the understanding that each child is a unique mix of strengths and challenges. We believe that the best strategy for each child is to allow the best strategy for that child to evolve. If we, as teachers, feel that we have not offered the best strategy for a child, then we should change our approach. We must take the time to learn more about the child, learn more about the way they learn, and find out what they are learning in their movements, hands-on activities, peer interactions, and communication with others.
